Who are you when you are comfortable in your clothes?
hen was the last time you hit the airport? And what exactly did you have on? Did you think about it for a long time? Or did you just throw something on knowing that you are not there to impress nobody? Besides the fact that time practically don’t exist while we wait for our flight, and the airport is practically a judge-free zone, it seems that those 2-3 hours, in the lounge or not, are the last public place where you can wear what you want, how you want (with limits) knowing that no one will judge you either, maybe because it’s too early, or maybe because they are trying to get to their next destination, and they don’t care about you, which is pretty liberating. When you walk down the street, or getting to your workplace, shopping, groceries, movies (exception - but still) or any other activity, the first thing that you think about is - will I run into someone that I know? And what if they’ll see me like a mess? I can’t have that, I better be fly or dressed properly - how many times has that gone through your brain? That decision-making moment? Probably enough for you to not even clock it anymore, and without realizing - it shapes our whole identity and how we react to others, let alone how we judge others as well, nobody is righteous in here, we call a spade a spade.
Thank god the influencers haven’t made a fit check series at the airports, oh shit, did we just open Pandora’s box? Just don’t come to gate J11 please… you can take the food court rendition tho. But that’s exactly why the airport is more interesting, and tells a full story about people and where they at, even more than the runway at times, because runways are dictated from above, not from the street, not even if a designer is saying “I looked into the street and that inspired the collection” even if so - what is it? 10 people that inspired it? Then it had to run through the designer himself and the team, and by that point - it’s not from the street anymore, even though it’s from the ground but there is a difference here. At the airport, you are looking at someone’s idea of what looks good for them, not for other people.
