Martine Rose taking over Balenciaga is exactly what fashion needs right now.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING!!!!

Well, we guess the only time we like rumors is either when Fleetwood Mac is spinning on the vinyl player or, in that case, when it comes to fashion and how it exists on social media. For 16 months, Balenciaga’s reign was held by Pierpaolo Piccioli, who stepped in to move on in his own unique way from Demna’s modern lens on what Balenciaga is and where it should go. The same vision that translated into sales and brand affection, but also cemented a new way that simply puts emphasis on a specific type of garment and the audience it caters to (purists mad in the comments in 3,2,1…). Simply evaporated in that timeframe - So of course, with time telling as well, PPP’s short-tenure at Balenciaga didn’t cater to the audience, and was cut short. After 16 months, Balenciaga made the right decision and tapped one of contemporary fashion’s most important designers, British designer Martine Rose, who became the second Black female designer to lead a major European fashion house, an act that we hope to see more and more across houses, hopefully ushering a new era in fashion. Making history as the first woman to lead the couture house in its 109-year history, the South London-born designer is sure to take the landscape by storm. She will be able to reconnect the house with the audience that it should be selling to, all while bringing her unique Jamaican heritage aesthetics and design language into the house, reimagined through her own lens. Fashion is exciting again, and Martine Rose is making history. What else do you need? Tuning in…
